A lot of popular and critical acclaim has been won by Jah Cure or Iyah Cure, as he has continued to release singles in the form of a steady stream. Beres Hammond, whom he looked up to as his mentor produced his first hit single. Sizzla joined him in the duet, titled ‘King of the Jungle’, which was released in 1997. This turned out to be his first major break.
The artiste grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, which is where he met Capleton, who gave him the name Jah Cure. Jah Cure was born on October 11, 1978, in Hanover, Jamaica. His real name is Siccature Alcock.
Even though he has always insisted that he is innocent, Jah Cure was convicted and sentenced to prison for fifteen years in April of 1999, after he was found guilty of some serious charges. He was arrested by the police for robbery, rape and illegal possession of guns, in November 1998, around
Montego Bay, while he was driving in the area.
His lyrical ability and unique voice has been showcased in ‘True Reflections’, ‘Longing For’ and ‘Love Is’, which are among the singles that he has released. ‘Free Jah Cure’ was the first album that he released in 2000. It was preceded by ‘Ghetto Life’ in 2003 and ‘Freedom Blues’ in the year 2005. He recorded and released the music while he was still in prison, where he managed to gain access to the required equipment.
Jah Cure released his album ‘True Reflections…A New Beginning’ merely 3 days after being released from prison, on parole. He served eight years of his fifteen year sentence and was released on July 28, 2007.
On August 12, 2007, at
Eindhoven in the
Netherlands, he performed at the Reggae Sundance Festival. That was his first concert after coming out of prison.
