Damien Marley, a man musically profound and humble by his own standards. These qualities have easily gained the respect of countless fans and entertainers across genres. The artist down to earth disposition has won him several collaborations with many well known artists such as Snoop Dog, Lil Kim, Gwen Steffani, Guru and Mariah Carey’s upcoming alum.
The three time Grammy award winner is carrying on his father’s legacy well through his own unique style of reggae music. Damien Marley which nicknamed Junior Gong is the only child of 1976 Miss World Cindy Breakspeare and the youngest child of Legendary Bob Marley.
His album ‘Halfway Tree’ won the Best Reggae Album Grammy Award in 2002. The album had been released in 2001. It was preceded by ‘Mr. Marley’ in 1996 and succeeded by ‘Jamrock’ in 2005. His style of music, which is often thought of as a precursor of hip-hop, is often referred to as the Jamaican style of rap or ‘deejaying’. This is different from the styles that his siblings have chosen to adopt. He has been performing since the young age of thirteen years, being the talented artist that he is.
Aside from his own performances, Damien also performs with his brothers Julian and Stephen whom both are members of the Ghetto Youths Crew Band.Damien’s brothers Ky-Mani, Ziggy, Stephen and Julian, each of whom are accomplished musicians and have been recording professionally, participated, along with him, in the Bob Marley Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival Tour in 2004.His single ‘Welcome to Jamrock’ has been placed the highest on UK Top 40, among all Reggae songs and the highest in Billboard album charts in the U.S., among all Reggae albums.
These are some among the records that he has set, over the years.He received a Grammy for ‘Welcome to Jamrock’, the single, in the Best Urban/Alternative Performance category and another for ‘Welcome To Jamrock’, the album, in the Best Reggae Album category, in 2006.He is a Rastafarian, like his father, and this has had a discernible influence on his music, as well.
