Dancehall musician Cecile is known for her creativity, style, intelligence, wit, a nearly perfect physique, an attractive smile and a lot of grace, just as much as she is known for her musical talent. She has been taking a dig at the male dancehall and reggae stars through tracks like ‘Changez’, besides releasing other numbers that are quite thought provoking and refreshing. She has managed to gain people’s attention, in this manner. CeCile has taken up issues related to women, including their sexual liberation in a major way and a number of her tracks are along those lines. ‘Do It to me’ is one such example. This is in spite of the fact that such topics remain taboo for large sections of society in her native Jamaica.
XLR8R, Vibe and Source are among the magazines in which she has been featured, at different points of time. Tamika Awards, Irie Jam Radio Awards, Richie B’s Awards, Jamaican Federation of Musicians Awards, Star Awards, Martins International Reggae Music Awards, Stone Love Awards and South Florida Reggae Awards are among those for which she has been nominated, over the years. Her music has received lots of recognition and she was also chosen to perform along with Beenie Man at 2001’s BET Harlem Block Party. CeCile tours not only across the Caribbean, but also the U.S., the U.K. and the rest of Europe. In the Europe MTV Awards in 2003, she performed at the pre-award party along with Sean Paul. She had also toured with him and performed some of his songs, besides having worked with him on tracks like ‘Can You Do The Wuk’, which was on the album ‘Dutty Rock’.
For a very short period of time, she had a deal with Delicious Vinyl Records, even as it did not last for long. The deal was signed in 2003. She has collaborated with F-Unit’s Olivia on ‘Got Me Going Crazy’, Shaggy on ‘Man a Man’, and with Carl Henry from Canada on ‘Bare As She Dare’. ‘Goody’, Hot like we”, ‘Touch it’, ‘Johnny’, ‘Only Faking’, and ‘Hot Like that’ are among the releases on her Bad Gyal Album.
