n 2004, two tunes of Bomani’s, whose name happens to be Oronde Charles, were aired on a local radio station and brought great acclaim to him. Before that, he had been doing his bit for carnival events and recording songs as well as writing lyrics for these, as a matter of routine. Subsequently, however, he has gone on to make a place for himself among Soca artistes.
As far as his debut is concerned, Bomani and five of his batch-mates were quite surprised by the kind of response that their performance received, when they performed at the school assembly, while he was at high school in SVG. By the time he was fifteen years old, he had started writing lyrics for his songs, even as he had started writing poetry at the age of twelve. As far as his interests are concerned, he builds costumes that are quite stunning, as a contribution towards festivities that form part of carnivals, besides taking a keen interest in cricket and soccer and spending some quality time with his friends. Bomani toured with band Hottsand throughout North America. MaddZart and Adrian Bailey were also members of the band. It was earlier called Prerogative and Bomani became its lead singer after coming into contact with a local veteran by the name of Robert Knights, whose son helped him join the band. This happened after Bomani had been part of many local bands, besides performances at school and talent shows. He had started performing actively by 1998. Even as Bomani has developed his own unique style, he credits a lot of that to his mother. According to him, she helped him learn to distinguish wrong from right, while, at the same time, allowing him a lot of freedom to explore things on his own. Those among musicians that inspire him include Winston Soso, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. Bomani’s, recently released CD, entitled ‘Deep’.
